Privacy Policy
Aviation 1 in 60 — covering all internal and public-facing apps, websites, and digital services we operate.
Last updated: 19 May 2026
In short: Aviation 1 in 60 collects only the personal information needed to deliver flight training services, assess prospective students, run our day-to-day operations, and meet our regulatory obligations. We do not sell your data. Your information is stored securely in Australia and handled in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the 13 Australian Privacy Principles.
1. Who we are
This Privacy Policy applies to Aviation 1 in 60 ("we", "us", "our") and to all apps, websites, and digital services we operate — whether intended for internal use by our staff and enrolled students, or made available to the general public. We are based in Australia and are bound by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), including the 13 Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). This policy explains what personal information we handle, why, and what rights you have.
2. What this policy covers
This Privacy Policy covers personal information collected through any Aviation 1 in 60 platform, including (but not limited to) those listed below. Some platforms apply only to enrolled students and staff; others are open to the public. As we add or retire platforms over time, the same principles in this policy continue to apply.
| Platform | Audience | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| 1in60 Log iOS & Android app |
Internal use only — enrolled students, instructors, and administrators | Manages flight training records, attendance, assessments, instructor notes, and internal messaging. Accounts are provisioned by Aviation 1 in 60 staff. |
| Aviation 1 in 60 Academy Online learning platform |
Internal & public — enrolled students and instructors, plus external learners who self-register for available courses | Course materials, theory lessons, exam preparation, and learning resources. Internal accounts are provisioned by Aviation 1 in 60 staff; external accounts are created by learners themselves when they sign up for a publicly available course. |
| Public assessment tools e.g. assess.aviation1in60.online |
Public — prospective students and visitors | Web-based IQ and learning-style (VARK) assessments offered as part of our recruitment and student-fit process. No login required; results are tied to the name and contact details supplied by the participant. |
| Aviation 1 in 60 website aviation1in60.com.au and subdomains |
Public | Information about our flight training programs, enrolment enquiries, and links to the platforms above. |
| Direct interactions | Anyone who contacts us | Email, phone, in-person enrolment conversations. |
3. Information we collect
3.1 Account information
When an account is created on one of our apps — either by an Aviation 1 in 60 administrator (for example, a 1in60 Log account or an internal Aviation 1 in 60 Academy account) or by you signing up directly (for example, to take a publicly available Aviation 1 in 60 Academy course) — we collect:
- Full name
- Email address
- Mobile phone number
- Aviation Reference Number (ARN), where applicable
- Role (student, instructor, administrator)
- Training program and licence level
- Authentication credentials (passwords are stored only as one-way hashes, never in plain text)
3.2 Training and progress information (internal apps)
To deliver and record your training, our internal apps store:
- Course and session enrolments
- Attendance records
- Theory subject completion and exam history
- Assessment results, including IQ-style and learning-style assessments
- Instructor notes attached to your record
- Tasks assigned to you and their completion status
3.3 Documents (internal apps)
Our internal apps allow uploads of training-related documents, which may include:
- Aviation medical certificates
- Knowledge Deficiency Reports (KDRs)
- Other documents reasonably required for your training file
Document uploads are stored in a private storage bucket accessible only to authorised staff.
3.4 Public service information
If you use one of our public services (for example, completing an assessment at assess.aviation1in60.online, self-registering for a publicly available Aviation 1 in 60 Academy course, or submitting an enquiry form on our website), we collect:
- The name and contact details you provide on the assessment form (typically full name, email, phone)
- Your responses to the assessment questions
- The computed result (e.g. score, learning-style profile)
- Basic technical information about your session (see Section 3.5)
Information you submit through public services is stored so that Aviation 1 in 60 staff can review it as part of considering whether our training programs are a good fit for you and to respond to your enquiry. If you later enrol, that information may be linked to your training record.
3.5 Technical and device information
When you use any of our platforms we collect basic technical information necessary to deliver the service securely, including:
- Device type and operating system version
- App or browser version
- Authentication session tokens (where you are signed in)
- IP address (for security and abuse prevention only)
Our apps and assessment tools do not include third-party advertising trackers and do not use the Android Advertising ID or the iOS Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA).
4. Why we collect your information
We collect personal information for the purposes set out below. We do not use your information for any unrelated purpose without your consent.
- To provide flight training services and maintain accurate training records;
- To assess whether prospective students are a good fit for our training programs (public assessments);
- To meet record-keeping obligations under the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) and other regulatory requirements;
- To communicate with you about your training, scheduling, account, or assessment result;
- To monitor progress, identify training needs, and support your development as a pilot;
- To secure our platforms and protect against unauthorised access or fraud;
- To comply with our legal obligations.
5. How we share your information
We do not sell your personal information. We only share it as set out below:
- Within Aviation 1 in 60. Your training records and assessment results are accessible to authorised instructors and administrators on a need-to-know basis.
- With service providers. We use carefully selected service providers to host our platforms and deliver core functionality. These currently include:
- Supabase (database and authentication, hosted in the Sydney AWS region, Australia)
- Google Play Services / Apple App Store services (app distribution and crash reporting)
- Vercel (web hosting for assessment tools and our website infrastructure)
- With regulators or law enforcement. Where required by law (for example, a CASA audit, court order, or lawful police request).
- With you. You can access your own training data through your student account, or request a copy of your assessment result by contacting us.
6. Where we store your information
Personal information is stored on infrastructure located in Australia (Sydney region). Some service providers (for example, Google and Apple, where you choose to install the app, or Vercel's edge network for the public assessment site) may process limited technical information outside Australia in accordance with their own privacy policies and Australian Privacy Principle 8 (cross-border disclosure of personal information).
7. How we protect your information
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, unauthorised access, modification, and disclosure. These steps include:
- Encrypted connections (HTTPS / TLS) for all data in transit;
- Database-level row security so users only see records they are authorised to see;
- Hashed password storage, never plain text;
- Role-based access controls limiting staff access to what their role requires;
- Regular review of access permissions.
No system is perfectly secure. If we become aware of an eligible data breach as defined under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme, we will notify the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) and any affected individuals as required by law.
8. How long we keep your information
We keep personal information for as long as it is needed to deliver our services and to meet our regulatory obligations. Training records relevant to pilot certification may be retained for extended periods to comply with CASA record-keeping requirements. Public assessment results submitted by people who do not subsequently enrol are kept for no longer than is reasonably necessary to follow up on the enquiry, after which they are securely destroyed or de-identified.
9. Your rights — access, correction, and deletion
Under the Australian Privacy Principles you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you;
- Correct information you believe is inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date;
- Request deletion of your account, assessment result, and associated personal information, subject to any overriding legal or regulatory record-keeping obligations;
- Make a complaint if you believe we have mishandled your personal information.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@aviation1in60.com.au. We will respond within a reasonable time, typically within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
10. Account and data deletion
You can request deletion of any account we hold for you on our internal apps at any time by contacting support@aviation1in60.com.au. On request we will delete your account and personal information, except where we are required by law to retain certain training records.
If you submitted information through one of our public services (for example, a completed assessment or enquiry form), you can request deletion of that record by emailing the same address and quoting the name and email used at the time.
11. Children's privacy
Our apps, websites, and services are intended for use by trainee pilots, instructors, administrators, and prospective students who are considering flight training. They are not designed for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can investigate and, where appropriate, delete it.
12. Cookies and analytics
Our websites and public services may use limited functional cookies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, or maintain session state. Our native mobile apps do not use cookies. We do not currently use third-party advertising or marketing analytics tools that track you across other apps or websites.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, the platforms we operate, or the law. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was last revised. Where changes are significant, we will let you know through the relevant app or by email.
